Itinerary

Day 1: Cuzco, Peru Cuzco to Malaga High Pass, Mountain Biking to Santa Maria Village (1,400m) (L/D)

Your day commences at 6:30 am with a 1.5-hour drive to Ollantaytambo, where a quick breakfast can be enjoyed, and snacks can be purchased for the journey to the Malaga High Pass. Upon arrival, your guide will provide a safety briefing before embarking on an exhilarating 2.5-hour bike ride descending into the lush Peruvian jungle. En route, you’ll pass by the stunning and remote Huamanmarca archaeological site, cruising through fruit plantations and over rivers before reaching Santa Maria village. The rest of the day is free for leisure. Your day concludes with a drive to Santa Teresa, where you’ll rest in a hostel dorm.

Note: Accommodation options are limited along the trekking route for the first 2 nights in Santa Maria & Santa Teresa villages. Most places have basic, rustic facilities, with shared bathrooms and limited hot water.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes, Peru Hike to Aguas Calientes along the train tracks or Machu Picchu town (B/L/D)

Embark on an easy 3-hour hike along the train tracks from Santa Teresa to the Hydroelectric Station, where a lunch break awaits. Then, continue for an additional 3 hours on foot to reach Aguas Calientes town. Here, you’ll find internet cafes, places with board games, and numerous shops to explore. Most trekkers choose to hike this segment, but there’s an optional train ride from the Hydroelectric Station to Aguas Calientes if you prefer. Overnight in a hostel for a well-deserved shower and a restful night’s sleep.

Day 3: Machu Picchu, Peru Explore the Ancient Citadel and the City of Machu Picchu & Return to Cuzco (B)

Embark on a walk to Machu Picchu, where a 2-hour guided tour of the ancient citadel awaits. Afterward, you have the freedom to explore the mysterious city at your own pace. Optional activities, such as climbing the Huayna Picchi Peak (to be booked in advance at an extra cost), are available.
